Balaton Bird Garden - Ornamental Bird and Pet Park

New experiences and insights for bird lovers from a colourful world of birds not found elsewhere! The first ornamental bird breeding park in Hungary, the Bird Garden, after nearly a quarter of a century of existence, has moved from the Southern Great Plain to the southern shore of Lake Balaton to house its bird population in a significantly larger park, with European-standard bird boxes and beautiful natural surroundings.
From March 2018, the ornamental bird park will be open continuously and will welcome new and old Guests, who will have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of at least one hour, during which they will not only be able to see exotic ornamental birds, special colour, feather and shape varieties, but also learn about the beautiful hobby of ornamental bird breeding. The composition of the bird population covers almost the entire range of domestic seed- and herbivorous bird species, from tiny finches, waterfowl, hen harriers and parrots to large ratites. Some birds entertain the visitor not only with their appearance but also with their vocal output, melody and speech, completing the experience of the ornithological park. From the upper levels of the park, built on the side of Gyugy Hill, the highest point of South Lake Balaton, there is a magnificent view of the surrounding hills, with regularly grazing deer to the west, a huge Arabian stud farm to the southwest, and the castle hill to the south, with the largest relatively intact castle ruin on the south coast.
The picturesque little village is the starting point of many hiking trails, its built heritage includes a bell tower and an old church, and a fishing pond in the former bed of Lake Balaton awaits nature lovers.
