The port of Siófok handles the most traffic on Lake Balaton. The port is home to a number of ships in season, including the late 19th century Helka and Kelén motor boats, and offers a wide range of activities for visitors. For example, you can go on a cruise or take part in various excursion boat programmes. Interestingly, the park is also home to a monument commemorating the 100th, 125th and 150th anniversaries of steamboat navigation on Lake Balaton. Getting out of the port of Siófok can be the biggest problem, as in strong winds there is a lot of waves between the two pier heads.
The predecessor of the Balaton Navigation Company (BAHART) was founded in 1846, thanks to the initiative of Count István Széchenyi. Our company owns and operates 22 of the most frequented public harbours on Lake Balaton, which are also popular tourist attractions in the settlements concerned.
At present, 23 passenger boats and 4 ferries are used for the comfortable travel and entertainment of our Guests involved in water transport, tourism, events and our own programme of activities. Unlike traditional public transport, our passengers have a pleasant time on board our scheduled boats, as the journey itself is a memorable and exciting part of the trip, and from summer 2016, our passengers will also enjoy WI-FI service! In 2017, we will operate 18 itineraries, catering for passengers travelling to both the south and north coasts.
